The Legacy of Artist Raymond Francis Robbins
Raymond Francis Robbins (1912-1980) was an American artist often known for his intricate realist paintings of the 20th century. Oil paintings dominated much of his work, but he was equally gifted in watercolors and charcoal drawings.
The gallery highlights a selection of Robbins' paintings from his five decades as an artist, covering a wide range of subjects from landscapes to still lifes. The earliest piece in the Gallery dates back to 1939 just after Robbins exhibited at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in a juried show chaired by the renowned Edward Hopper.
